![]() ![]() ![]() The graphic style is nice with a cartoonish aesthetic that suits the game’s sense of humor very well. In terms of style, I can be a little more positive overall. Naughty Bear is a pretty fun engine with solid controls, but the lack of ideas, content, and annoying bugs and issues keep the formula from being a real winner. Having said that, I was recently offered an update via Xbox live and since then the issue seems to have eased considerably, but note that without this patch the game is completely unplayable. It’s probably the least stable game I’ve played. I spent a lot of time on certain levels trying to get this elusive gold trophy and it froze me three times in a row in one place. Did I mention the problems already? This is the best part of it all. The fact that a relatively new game has lost its entire online community is probably a testament to the lack of sparkle in the multiplayer experience. There are a few multiplayer modes with a pretty basic ranking system on offer, but I couldn’t even try them because no one is online at all. Alternate costumes can be unlocked to alter Naughty’s stats, but they really don’t change the experience significantly. Nice try, but a few more challenges aren’t enough to make up for the lack of content posted here.Īs fun as it sounds, it gets very old after the second or third timeĪ few more steps are taken to add to the variety and challenge, but they don’t help much. The game attempts to extend the replay value by giving you additional challenges such as completing the level without killing anyone, or not getting hit, etc. You can try to give it a makeover and change the location of the weapon, but I noticed anyway. As if that weren’t enough, there is only one level! That’s right, just one. There just aren’t enough different ways to earn Villain Points, and without some entertaining contextual indents, Naughty Bear would very quickly fall into a mash case killing them all. After a while, although the repetition begins to set in. ![]() It can make the darker sides of the human psyche laugh and satisfy in a way that only games like this can, and it can get quite addicting trying to keep beating your own high scores. This is a high score where points are awarded for anti-social behavior such as murder, sabotage and arson among others. Even if there is nothing in the plot, the basic mechanics of the game can be quite fun in short bursts. ![]() The game revolves around an ugly bear who must take revenge on his peers for some reason and must commit horrific atrocities to do so. Although it is a nod to various TV shows and shorts on the internet, Naughty Bear’s style is unique to the game scene, but sadly, it’s about style rather than substance. If you’ve ever seen Happy Tree Friends or Wonder Showzen, you know what kind of dark comedy is on offer. The setting generally revolves around a childish country of plush and toy and the tension between that and the dastardly acts that reward the highest scores produces the majority of games with quirky style and humor. In Naughty Bear, you inhabit said teddy bear and commit a whole series of atrocities in order to accumulate the highest score possible. Meet Naughty Bear, a bear who unsurprisingly terrorizes his stuffed companions and commits varying acts of wickedness. ![]()
